Why this tour

What makes this walk different

1

Just your group, no strangers

Every tour is private. Set your own pace, stop for the photo you want, and skip the stretches that don't interest you.

2

See more of Tokyo in one ride

An e-bike's pedal assist covers ground a walking tour can't. This route links six landmark areas in a single three-hour loop, no taxis or trains needed in between.

3

Modern and historic Tokyo, back to back

Shinjuku's skyscrapers, Takeshita Street, and Shibuya Scramble Crossing on one half of the ride, then the Imperial Palace moat and National Diet Building on the other. Few tours put both sides of the city in one trip.

“What I like about the three-hour route is that it links six landmark areas most visitors would need taxis between, modern Shinjuku and Shibuya on one half, then historic Imperial Palace grounds on the other. First-timers assume they must pick one side.”

“My favourite stretch is the ginkgo avenue at Meiji Jingu Gaien, when the leaves turn gold they arch overhead like a tunnel. Right before that, the classic shot at Shibuya Scramble Crossing looks back toward the giant screens.”

“I like finishing guests' ride past the National Diet Building, Japan's seat of government, then Sakurada-mon Gate before looping the Imperial Palace moat. It's the quietest stretch of the whole route, a good place to slow down.”

The walk

Stop by stop

Shinjuku Okido-higashi Intersection
1Shinjuku Okido-higashi Intersection

Riding through Tokyo's skyscraper district

After the practice ride, we head straight into Shinjuku, where the city's tallest office towers rise on both sides of the road. The Okido-higashi intersection gives a clear, wide view of the skyline without having to fight through station crowds on foot.

Guide's tip: this is one of the few spots where you can take in the full skyscraper row in a single glance.
Takeshita Street
2Takeshita Street

Harajuku's famous shopping street, on foot

We dismount at the entrance to Takeshita Street and walk the bikes through, since it's pedestrian-packed and narrow. Crepe stands, fashion boutiques, and candy shops line both sides. It's a quick but colorful detour before getting back in the saddle.

Guide's tip: if you want a crepe, this is the stop to grab one (not included, but easy to pay as you go).
Shibuya Scramble Crossing
3Shibuya Scramble Crossing

The world's busiest pedestrian crossing

We ride up to the edge of Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where thousands of people cross at once from every direction when the lights change. Your guide will find a safe spot to stop and watch, and help you get the photo everyone asks for.

Guide's tip: the view from the Shibuya side of the crossing, looking back toward the giant screens, is the classic shot.
Meiji Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue
4Meiji Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue

Cycling beneath a canopy of ginkgo trees

A short ride from Shibuya brings us to the ginkgo-lined avenue at Meiji Jingu Gaien. In season the leaves turn a deep gold and arch overhead like a tunnel. Even outside of peak color, it's a calm, tree-lined stretch after the energy of Shibuya.

Guide's tip: the avenue is straight and flat, so it's an easy, relaxed stretch to simply enjoy the ride.
Imperial Palace Loop & National Diet Building
5Imperial Palace Loop & National Diet Building

The extended loop that sets this tour apart from the 2-hour version

This is where the 3-hour route goes further than our shorter e-bike tour. We ride past the National Diet Building, Japan's seat of government, then continue to Sakurada-mon Gate before looping around the Imperial Palace moat. It's a scenic, mostly flat ride past some of Tokyo's most historic grounds, and a fitting way to close out the tour before heading back to base.

Guide's tip: the moat loop is the quietest stretch of the whole ride, a good place to slow down and take it in.

I went on the ride with my 11 and 13 yr olds sons. Being a Sunday the roads were quiet. We covered quite a bit of distance in the three hours and it’s a fun way for sightseeing when kids would otherwise complain! Our guide Kozai was friendly and knowledgeable. The ride was a highlight of our time in Tokyo.

We visited some wonderful places and felt that the amount of information provided was just right – interesting and informative without being overwhelming. The bikes were excellent and comfortable, and our guide was incredibly friendly, helpful and spoke very good English. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to see Tokyo from a different perspective. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo!

This was an easy way to see much more of Tokyo than we could have of foot. Ebike made the hills a breeze and Shimon (who spoke excellent english) was a very cheerful and knowledgeable guide. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Our guide Sheen (apologies for spelling) was excellent. Weather was poor but he negotiated us through the conditions exceptionally well. Very cheery and well informed guide. Equipment was excellent.

An excellent ride that allows one to form an opinion of the main areas of Tokyo. The guide was very kind and was attentive to our needs the entire time, even offering to lend us money so we could buy an ice cream since we left our wallet in the locker. The bicycles work well and we felt safe throughout the entire 3-hour ride that flew by. I highly recommend it and congratulate Shum for his dedication, knowledge, and kindness.
