Harajuku's famous teenage fashion street
We start in the middle of Harajuku's youth culture. Takeshita Street is 400 metres of crepe stands, gacha machines, purikura photo booths, and shops built entirely around trends that change every season. Your guide points out what's actually worth stopping for versus what's just for show.
From neon to forest in five minutes
We walk from Takeshita Street's crowds into Meiji Shrine's forested approach, passing beneath a large wooden torii gate. The change is immediate: the street noise drops away and you're surrounded by trees donated from across Japan when the shrine was built in the 1920s.
Tokyo's most visited shrine, and how to pay respects properly
Meiji Shrine honours Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Your guide shows you the purification basin, the correct bow-clap-bow sequence for worship, and where to write a wish on an ema board. We take time for photos at the main hall before heading back toward Harajuku Station.

In the morning, my husband and I decided to visit Harajuku and I was able to book a same day tour through Klook. Our guide Miyuki met us at the meeting spot with clear signage, explained all sorts of cool things about Japanese culture and history, and even pointed out a few things I told her I was specifically on the lookout for. Yes. Only your group and your guide. The 2-15 range is simply the group size we can take in one booking.
I am travelling solo. Can I book?+
Yes. Solo travellers are booked at the 2-person price so the tour can run privately for you.
Can I choose the start time?+
Yes. Pick a date and start time when you book. Mornings are quieter at the shrine; afternoons suit Takeshita Street's busier, livelier mood.
What if it rains?+
The tour runs in light rain. In a typhoon or severe weather we will contact you to reschedule or refund in full.
Do we need cash for the crepes or gacha machines?+
A little cash or a Japanese IC card is useful. Most Takeshita Street stands take cash, and some take card.
Which languages do the guides speak?+
All guides speak English. Some also speak Chinese, Korean, Spanish or French. Ask when booking and we will try to match you.
How is this different from the Meiji Shrine Walking Tour?+
That tour goes deeper into Meiji Shrine and its Inner Garden with no Harajuku stop. This one splits the time between Takeshita Street's energy and the shrine's calm.
Do I need to pay anything on the day?+
The tour itself is prepaid. Bring a little cash only if you want crepes, gacha or purikura.
